Black Bean Burger
The fastest veggie burger recipe you'll ever make! I also love it because the patties can be cooked on the barbecue.
Prep : 10 min
Cooking : 10 min
Servings : 4-6 patties
Ingredients
540 ml (19 oz) rinced black beans (1 can or cooked)
1 small onion
1 clove of garlic
¼ cup (60 ml) ground flaxseed
¼ cup (60 ml) quick-cooking oatmeal
1 Tbsp (15 ml) chili powder
1 tsp (5 ml) cumin
1 tsp (5 ml) canola oil
Water (if needed)
Salt & pepper
Preparation
In a food processor, blend all ingredients until a semi-smooth texture is reached.
Without a food processor: roughly mash the beans using a potato masher, then mix in the finely chopped onion and garlic.Put the mixture in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes. This will make it easier to shape the patties later.
Form patties with your hands.
Cooking options:
Pan-fried: cook in a little oil over medium heat until the patties are nicely golden brown.
Barbecue: cook on a grill mat or directly on the grill grates.
Freezing option (recommended): place the patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for about 20 minutes. Once fully firm, transfer to an airtight container and keep frozen. Cook the patties directly from frozen on the barbecue grill. This method helps the patties hold together very well and makes them easier to handle.
Serve on burger buns with your favorite toppings.
